Karen has developed the the first several units of the program above in an integrated format to take the place of the usually fragmented and often boring subject of history. In the schools, U.S. history is often taught in 5th grade and again in 11th. World history is sometimes taught in 6th, junior high, and again at the high school level. Government, as a separate course, is taught in the 12th grade. Humanities is sometimes taught as either a requirement or an elective. Geography is taught as a requirement in some districts or incidentally as "time" or teacher's interest allows. Economics is taught in the 12th grade usually as an elective. Current World Problems is also taught as a fragmented subject. All the above subjects are related. Therefore, Karen starts from the beginning of recorded history in the Fertile Crescent of the Middle East. Using the USBORNE Book of World History as the primary text, with many other supplementary materials and trade books, the student is engaged in the extremely interesting subject of history. Literature of the time or about the time is read as each period of history is studied and the student is given relevant assignments in research and writing to augment their reading. The course can be completed individually, in groups, or by distance learning. Contact the E-mail address if you are interested.
